Communicate for impact.
My superpower is taking the complex and making it simple and accessible – using visuals and interactive design elements to transform understanding. This type of storytelling has brought energy and excitement to new initiatives, communicated a vision and helped in training and recruiting. I start with empathy, taking time to understand the human needs, and then sketch, iterate and co-design visuals and experiences with impact.

The museum wanted a way to consistently design more impactful visitor experiences. Working collaboratively across multiple departments, I created a new and effective process, based in design thinking and needed a way to train new staff. I designed a playful visual of the process and it greatly simplified our onboarding. When a paleontologist asked me, after a visitor testing session “now we’re done with ideation, right?” – I knew it was a success!

A graduate program asked for my help in creating a visual that better communicated their program. I led a strategic planning session with their faculty and staff to understand their needs and sketched a first draft, and ran a focus group with their students to get a customer perspective. The end result was a visual that effectively captured their unique value proposition.

As the Director of Innovation, I created many new programs and services for our community and needed a way to communicate how the parts added up to a new and compelling innovation ecosystem. I designed a visual to capture the story and it has become an effective tool to help external and internal stakeholders understand the vision.

When the museum partnered with Harvard to offer a graduate course “Creative Engagement in Museums” – I helped design a highly interactive and immersive student experience, based in human-centered design. My creative use of sticky notes helped facilitators visually see when they were talking too much, and enabled them to design more interactive visitor experiences. Students loved it and the course received consistent 5-star ratings.
